Dr. John Sullivan was a beloved professor of organic chemistry at EMU for forty-two years, until his untimely death at the age of 68 in 2000. Professor Sullivan came to EMU immediately after his Ph.D. graduate work at the University of Michigan. His love for teaching chemistry was apparent to all who knew him. In addition to teaching, he also served as the adviser to pre-dental students and remained active in synthetic organic chemistry research. In all that he did, Professor Sullivan had the ability to cut through all the superfluous and get right to the heart of the matter. In all of his dealings, he was always straightforward. These traits were appreciated by both his students and his colleagues.
