Hiring Process
Eastern Michigan University uses PageUp as its talent management and applicant tracking system. Many aspects of the hiring process are managed within the PageUp environment. The University Human Resources Department is here to help support you through the staff hiring process. Below is some important process information and links to documents to review.
- After you receive approval to fill a staff position, you will submit a requisition to post your position through PageUp.
- The HR Team will review your requisition along with other mandatory approvers on the work flow.
- Once fully approved, your staff posting will be visible on Eastern’s job board and contracted job posting sites. You may request additional job posting sites from the Talent Acquisition Team, however this is usually at your department's expense.
- The Talent Acquisition Team will reach out to you to schedule a Recruitment Strategy Meeting.

- You will then review candidates and host interviews.
- A minimum of two supervisory reference checks is required for external staff hires. The hiring manager (or an admin or someone they elect from the search committee) will conduct reference checks on the top candidate. While you may ask whatever quesitons are appropriate for the role, the Talent Acquisition Team has created a suggested Staff Reference Check Form that can be downloaded and edited per your needs.
- Once you have decided who you want to offer the position to, you will complete the hiring proposal/offer card within PageUp. The proposal will be electronically routed for approval to the responsible HR Business Partner and the HR Compensation Team.
- The Compensation Team will review the proposal, provide a recommended salary, and then the Talent Acquisition Team will give approval for the hiring manager to make a verbal offer to the candidate.
- The hiring manager will verbally extend the employment offer, contingent upon a background investigation and finalize a start date. Please note, start dates for external hires must be a minimum of 2 weeks out to allow for onboarding and background check processes.
- Once the candidate verbally accepts, the hiring manager must change the applicant's status in PageUp to Verbal Offer Accepted and the Talent Acquisition Team will initiate the written offer letter via the PageUp system.
- The background check will be completed after the candidate accepts the contingent offer and onboarding activities will commence.
