Reciprocal Borrowing between EMU and UM

Fall 2020: The University of Michigan Libraries are only open to UM students, faculty and staff and reciprocal borrowing by EMU is temporarily suspended. 

U-M faculty can continue to get an EMU library courtesy card to check out materials at the EMU Library.

U-M students and staff must first request an EMU card through the U-M library. Use:

You will be notified by email when your guest borrower's card can be picked up. Bring a picture ID with you.

Borrowing Privileges and library cards for students and staff are valid for the current term, and can be renewed by visiting the Circulation Desk of your home institution.


  • Most items circulate for three weeks and may be renewed unless requested by another borrower.
  • Items must be returned to the institution from which they were borrowed.
  • Failure to follow guest borrowing policies and procedures may result in sanctions or termination of privileges from either or both institutions.
