Get Materials from Other Libraries

During the suspension of in-person classes:

  • Requests for articles via ILLiad is continuing.
  • Requests for books in MeLCat and ILLiad has been suspended. If you need a chapter from a book, we might be able to fulfill it; submit the request as an article request.

Mel logoMeLCat is a catalog for books, audio, and videos from many Michigan libraries that can be requested online and picked up at Halle library. Materials typically arrive within 1 week with a 3 week loan period.

Use this service to obtain:

  • Books checked out or missing from the EMU library
  • Video & Audio

MyMeLCat: login with name and E number to check the status of requests or to renew items borrowed from MeLCat.

Some libraries allow EMU patrons borrow materials in person (using an EMU ID). To see if a library participates, look for libraries with a "Yes" under "Visiting Patron" on this chart

Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Loan system, ILLiad, lets library users request items not available through the EMU Library or MeLCat.

Use this service to obtain:

  • Articles and Photocopies
  • Books not available in MeLCat
  • Theses & Dissertations

Questions about how to use this service? Contact a librarian or see How to Use Interlibrary Loan.

Visiting Other Libraries

EMU students, faculty, and staff have options for borrowing materials in-person at other libraries, including University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. This can be faster than using Interlibrary Loan or MeLCat for delivery.

These reciprocal borrowing arrangements also allow patrons from other institutions that participate in these programs to borrow materials from the EMU Library.
