The OISS is happy to support you in reaching your educational, career and personal goals while at EMU. 

Office Hours

Monday through Friday* - 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

*With the exception of official holidays and university closures.

Processing Times

Estimated processing time is 7–10 business days* for complete, accurate requests.   

*Does not include holidays, university or office closures, or weekend days.

Walk-in Hours

Monday and Thursday from 1 p.m.–4 p.m., with the exception of official holidays and university closures. Walk-in hours are first come, first serve. Last sign up for walk-in advising will be at 3:45 p.m.

Walk-in hours are for students who have short, five-minute questions. No appointment is needed for walk-ins. CPT, OPT and Change of Status applications will not be processed during walk-in hours.

Appointments

New international students, students interested in participating as a volunteer or group leader, or students who are inquiring information from the OISS for a class/group project can make an appointment with the international programs coordinator. If you are a first-time visitor to our online appointment system, you need to create an account using the "registration" button. If you have already created an account, just enter your E-number and make an appointment with an advisor using the "Appointment Locator" function.

Please call the office at 734.487.3116 to set up an appointment for the following:

  • Reinstatement
  • Change of Status
  • STEM OPT Application Processing

If you have any questions, we suggest attending walk-in hours to speak with an advisor. The advisor will schedule a follow-up appointment if necessary.

Things that do not require an appointment

Stop by the OISS office during walk-in hours if you need to:

  • Obtain travel signature for I-20/DS-2019
  • Complete on-campus employment paperwork
  • ITIN application
  • Tax questions
  • I-515A processing

Things that you can do when the office is open

  • Submit and pick up forms
  • Pick up I-20/DS-2019
  • Request a concurrent enrollment letter
  • Obtain travel signature for I-20/DS-2019 (one business day processing)
