Why You Like Working Here
EMU has always been like a second home to me. I really enjoyed the friendships I made while I was a student and now I enjoy the students I work for in advising. When I had the opportunity to come back to EMU and work here professionally, I couldn't pass it up.
Favorite EMU Moment
I have a lot of great EMU memories and stories, but one of my favorites happened my freshman year. During orientation, there was an event at Bowen Field House called Play Fair. One of the games was to sort yourself into groups by birthday month without speaking. After everyone was in their group, the next challenge was to sort yourself by birthday. That day was my actual birthday, along with two other people. 1,000 people sang happy birthday to us, which was pretty awesome.
Favorite Campus Spot
I have a real affinity for the ground floor of Sellers Hall. It was my home for four years as a student. I was the area complex director for Phelps/Sellers for a year when I came back to EMU. I love the sound of my voice echoing in the empty hallway just before move in; the smell of a room that has just been cleaned and painted; and the scurry of students and families on move in day. I wouldn't trade my time spent in Sellers for anything.
Surprising Fact
I like to dabble in photography. I kind of fell into it about 10 years ago when I took a pretty dang good picture of then-candidate Barack Obama (perhaps you've heard of him). I've since taken an entry-level class in photography and shot some other photos that I consider halfway decent. My favorite subjects to shoot are my wife and son, because they're beautiful people and I like to capture that.
Superpower
I think time travel would be pretty cool. I really enjoy history, so it would be fun to be able to go back in time and see historical things in real time like the moon landing.
Next Goal
I've given semi-serious consideration to running for President in 2020. I mean, why not, right? If for no other reason than super PAC money. I've been told any natural born citizen 35 years or older is eligible. Maybe I'd get to meet Ellen or something cool.
