Undergraduate Music Audition Day Schedule

2023-2024 Audition Dates

During the academic year 2023-2024, EMU School of Music & Dance auditions will be offered with the choice of in-person or remote.  If you chose to audition remotely, after you complete the audition application, send an email to Dr. Babcock expressing that you would like to audition remotely.

If you are auditioning remotely, create a video of your audition and post it as unlisted to YouTube.  Send the link to the video to [email protected] no later than 1 day prior to your chosen audition date. Accompaniment for remote auditions (live or pre-recorded) is required for vocal auditions only. (Accompaniment will be provided for in-person vocal auditions.)

The typical audition day schedule for those auditioning in-person in January, February and March is as follows:

  • 8 a.m. – Registration and refreshments – Alexander Music Building lobby
  • 8:30 a.m. – Welcome session – Alexander Recital Hall

Music applicants

  • 9 a.m. – Music Literacy Assessment
  • 9:15–11:30 a.m. – Piano placement exam
  • 9:15–11:30 a.m. – Program interviews (music education, music therapy)
  • 9:15–11:30 a.m. – Auditions on principal instrument/voice
  • 11:30 a.m. – Lunch in the Wise Room at the Commons
  • 12:30 p.m. – Campus mini-tour (Student Center, Halle Library, Pease Auditorium)
  • 1:30 p.m. – Music theory advanced placement exam, walk-in advising, auditions on principal instruments/voice, observe ensemble rehearsals

Parents of Music applicants

  • 9:30 a.m. – Information session with representatives from University Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing and Dining Services and Honors College
  • 10:45 a.m. – School of Music and Dance question and answer session
  • 11:30 a.m. – Lunch in the Wise Room at the Commons
  • 12:30 p.m. – Campus mini-tour (Student Center, Halle Library, Pease Auditorium)

*We kindly ask all parents to remain outside during the principal instrument/voice auditions.

When you arrive on the EMU campus, we suggest that you park in the Alexander Parking Lot, next to the music building. Parking for our Audition Day guests is free; simply bring your parking stub to the registration table for validation. We look forward to seeing you on Audition Day at EMU!
