  • American Choral Directors Association

    Founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music's position in American society.

    Members of the EMU Student Chapter are a eclectic mix of majors from music education to vocal performance to BA Music students. Regardless of major and background, all are here to learn about choral music in all its forms. Anyone with an interest in choral music is welcome to attend meetings!

    In order to experience the full benefits of being a member, the student chapter encourages everyone to become a member of ACDA. Student membership costs only $35 dollars a year.


    ACDA membership has numerous benefits such as:

    • Regular newsletters from the ACDA, each one a great source of information from choral directors in the field
    • Access to all archived newsletters from the past 50 years
    • Discounts at state, regional and national conferences and workshops
    • Being part of the largest professional choral network in the country

     

  • ASTA Student Chapter

    The American String Teachers Association is a membership organization for string and orchestra teachers and players, helping them to develop and refine their careers. ASTA's members range from budding student teachers to artist-status performers. The organization provides a vast array of services, including instrument insurance, an award-winning scholarly journal, discounts on publications and resources, annual professional development opportunities, and access to collegial network of colleagues throughout the string profession. 

  • Dance Forum

    Dance Forum seeks to enrich and support student activities in the EMU dance program. The forum hosts parties, organizes fundraisers, works with the student government and the forum faculty advisor, and presents special activities for freshmen. Fundraisers, community dance workshops, sponsoring master classes and producing concerts are some of our activities.

  • Kappa Kappa Psi

    The brothers of the Delta Upsilon chapter of  Kappa Kappa Psi believe that service to the college or university band program fosters responsibility, loyalty and leadership; that a spirit of brotherhood is enhanced by the participation in a band program; that music is a universal language and truly the greatest of the arts; and that through fraternal participation, each member will strive for the highest standard of excellence.

  • Mu Phi Epsilon, Epsilon Lambda chapter

    Mu Phi Epsilon is a coeducational, international professional music fraternity whose purposes are the recognition of scholarship and musicianship and the promotion of friendship. Its aims are the advancement of music throughout the world, the promotion of musicianship and scholarship, loyalty to the Alma Mater and the development of a true bond of friendship. The fraternity is composed of collegiate chapters, alumni chapters and allied members.

  • Music Therapy Student Association (MTSA)

    MTSA serves to educate music therapy majors and non-majors about music therapy. It provides opportunities for music therapy students to meet, learn and prepare for their career in music therapy and to educate the community about music therapy and provide community service opportunities for music therapy majors.

  • National Association for Music Education (NAfME)

    National Association for Music Education (NAfME), among the world’s largest arts education organizations, is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. NAfME advocates at the local, state and national levels; provides resources for teachers, parents, and administrators; hosts professional development events; and offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers. The Association orchestrates success for millions of students nationwide and has supported music educators at all teaching levels for more than a century.

    Since 1907, NAfME has worked to ensure that every student has access to a well-balanced, comprehensive and high-quality program of music instruction taught by qualified teachers. NAfME’s activities and resources have been largely responsible for the establishment of music education as a profession, for the promotion and guidance of music study as an integral part of the school curriculum, and for the development of the National Standards for Arts Education.
