- 400-level (415A/B and 416A/B) is "upper-level" applied music and is used by students beginning in their fifth semester of study, continuing through the completion of their applied music requirement.
Each of the applied music courses (115A/B, 116A/B, 415A/B and 416A/B) can be repeated for credit an unlimited number of times.
Registration procedures
- Incoming students (freshmen and transfers) will be registered for their first semester of applied music by the coordinator of music advising.
- Students transitioning from lower-level (100-level) to upper-level (400-level) applied music will be registered for their fifth semester of applied music by the coordinator of music advising.
- Students must be approved for upper-level study by their applied music instructor. Approval (or denial) is based on the student's jury at the end of their fourth semester of applied music study. Students must complete and bring to their jury a "Request for Upper-level Applied Music Study" form. Students who are denied upper-level applied music study will remain in lower-level study, and the additional lower-level applied music credits will not count towards their applied music requirement.
Students in all other semesters of applied music study (semesters 2–4 and 6–8) will register themselves. To do so, they will need to enter the appropriate "CRN" at the time of online registration. These numbers change each semester, and are specific to each instrument and course number.
