  • Winds and Percussion Day at EMU | BANDORAMA concert

    Attend clinics specialized for your instrument, taught by each of EMU's applied wind, brass, and percussion professors. You'll learn tips and tricks designed to improve all aspects of your playing, meet and play ensemble music with other high school and EMU students who play your instrument, and hear professional performances. Clinics and faculty recital 1–5 p.m.

    Buffet dinner will be served (included in registration) before everyone attends the BANDORAMA concert, which begins at 7 p.m. at Pease Auditorium. You'll be up close and personal at Pease Auditorium to check out exciting performances by the EMU Marching Band, Wind Symphony, and Symphonic Band. All inclusive registration fee $30.

    Open to high school instrumentalists, grades 9-12.

  • High School Honors Band

    Open by audition to talented student instrumentalists in grades 9-12, EMU Bands host this All-Star weekend event January 10-12, 2020. In addition to rehearsals in preparation for the culminating concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon in Pease Auditorium, participating students will have instructional time with EMU faculty-artists, enjoy a dinner banquet and pizza party, be housed in a local Ann Arbor hotel for the weekend while making great friends and memories.

    2020 Honors Band Schedule: Friday, January 10, 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, January 11, all day.; Sunday, January 12, 2 p.m. concert (a.m. rehearsal) in historic Pease Auditorium.

    To audition to be a part of the 2020 EMU Honors Band:

    1. Read the audition requirements and video guidelines HERE.
    2. Between November 1–26, 2019, record a video of yourself playing a prepared portion of a solo or etude, as outlined in the audition requirements (smart phone videos are acceptable.)
    3. Post your audition video online as an unlisted YouTube video, and then enter the URL address when you submit your online application.
    4. There is a non-refundable $10 application fee. If accepted, this same amount will be credited to your Honors Band participation fee.
    5. There are limited spots for students who prefer to audition in person while on campus on November 23 for Winds and Percussion Day. However, you must select this option when you complete the online application. No guarantee can be made for this option after November 16.

    The audition deadline for the 2020 EMU Honors Band is November 26. Determination for selection for the EMU Honors Band will be made on a rolling basis, therefore early submission is encouraged. Questions may be addressed to EMU Bands.

  • Great Lakes Concert Band Festival - Music For All

    A Music For All Regional Affiliate Festival

    Friday, March 27, 2020 [Regretfully CANCELLED due to COVID-19 pandemic]

    The Great Lakes Concert Band Festival at Eastern Michigan University offers high school concert bands an opportunity to showcase their musicianship in a non-competitive environment. Bands present concerts free of repertoire restrictions for an audience of their peers, friends, families, and a panel of national collegiate music educators. In addition to performing in historic Pease Auditorium, each band will receive adjudicator recordings and a 30-min. educational clinic, workshops with applied faculty, and enjoy performances by other ensembles, including the EMU Wind Symphony.

  • Wind Symphony Annual HS Performance Tour

    Each spring, the Eastern Michigan University Wind Symphony travels across Michigan and surrounding states to perform for young musicians. Our students enjoy the opportunity to interact in many ways and in addition to evening concerts shared with the community, visits have included: joint evening concerts, side-by-side rehearsals, clinics, and school assemblies. If you are interested in having the Wind Symphony perform at your school, please contact Dr. Mary Schneider.
  • Band Day at The Factory

    High school marching bands from throughout Michigan and Ohio will join the EMU Marching Band for a college football game experience. They participate in a massed band halftime rehearsal and performance at Rynearson Stadium.
