(THE SEMINAR IS NOW FULL)
This seminar is exclusively for Eastern Michigan University Part-Time Lecturers. To be eligible, you must have at least two complete semesters of teaching experience at EMU. This seminar is geared towards Part-Time Lecturers who want to move from A-level to B-level or to build on their current B-level expertise.
IMPORTANT: Participation in this seminar does not guarantee future employment at EMU.
The seminar goals are to:
- Give participants a "teaching toolbox" -- new or improved strategies for active learning within the classroom.
- Enhance self-awareness so that participants develop more effective teaching and research strategies.
- Develop an action plan for participants' teaching/learning methods and career trajectories.
In addition to improving teaching and learning, this seminar will also include support in career development and scholarly opportunities for Part-Time Lecturers. The format of the seminar will include readings, research design, group discussion, active learning exercises, including sharing successful practices experienced in your teaching.
Making Connections with other Part-Time Lecturers
An additional goal is to build collaborative relationships with other seminar participants and with the Faculty Development Center.
Participant Responsibilities and Support
Together we will create an individual professional development action plan customized to help you accomplish what you hope to achieve over the next year and beyond. Individual consultation will be available through the FDC in the months following the seminar to support successful achievement of your development goals. Only those of you who are willing to fully engage in active participation of their own professional development should apply (e.g. Participants will be asked to analyze current teaching practices and create an action plan for professional development and instructional improvements to your classes).
An honorarium of $300 will be awarded upon successful completion of your professional development action plan.
Participants will attend 5 two-hour sessions during the Summer I, 2017 semester. The group will meet Friday afternoons from 2:00-4:00 PM on the following dates:
- May 5
- May 12
