EMU has moved from McAfee anti-malware software to Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP). SCEP works similarly to the way the McAfee product worked. The anti-virus software on each computer communicates to the System Center server much like McAfee communicated to the campus EPO server for updates and also to report virus infection and remediation details.

Common questions and answers about the software can be found in Frequently Asked Questions.

EMU Windows Computers

Windows computers have already been converted to the SCEP anti-malware product. If you need to have the antivirus software installed on an EMU-owned Windows computer, please contact the Help Desk at 734.487.2120 or by email at [email protected].

EMU Macintosh Computers

The implementation of Microsoft SCEP for Macintosh computers requires manual installation of the Casper Suite. The Casper Suite of tools will be used to keep the Microsoft SCEP anti-virus product up to date as new releases become available.

To schedule installation on your Macintosh, contact your College/Divisional Technologist or request installation via the IT Help Desk (7-2120 or [email protected]).

Macintosh Power users may self-enroll by going to the Casper enrollment web page, logging in with your NetID and password, downloading the install kit and then following the installation instructions.

Once SCEP is installed, the Menubar icon will change from the old McAfee icon to the new SCEP icon.

Free At-Home Antivirus Software

Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer free or reduced price antivirus solutions to their customers. Check with your home ISP (e.g. Comcast, AT&T or Verizon) to see what they offer.

If your ISP does not provide free antivirus software, you can try one of the following free antivirus solutions.
