Personal Items Security

3. 2. 1. and it's gone. EMU Police Esafe flyer.A major goal of Eastern Michigan University is to keep you and your belongings safe. In one initiative to this end, the Division of I.T and the EMU Police have joined forces to engage in an activity called "3. 2. 1. And It's Gone." As I.T. employees and the police see unattended personal items on campus, they will leave the card displayed here to remind individuals that it only takes a second for someone to walk off with their personal items.

The back of the card provides the following security tips on how to keep personal items from getting lost or stolen:

  • Treat your laptop like cash...
don't leave it for even a second.
  • Use a cable or alarm on your laptop...
if you have an alarm, turn it on.
  • Keep passwords somewhere else...
in a software locker such as LastPass.
  • Get your personal items out of the car...
or, at least out of sight.
  • Pay attention in public areas...
such as libraries, lounges, cafeterias, and computing labs.
  • Use a lost device application...
turn on or download a theft locating application compatible with your device.
