Securing your Zoom Meetings

Zoom has received a lot of media attention related to security issues. While Zoom has made changes to address these issues, there are also a number of things you can do to secure your meetings from uninvited guests.

  • Familiarize yourself with  Zoom's settings  and features. By default, all EMU meetings require a passcode, and will place participants in a Waiting Room until they are admitted by the host.
    • Passcode: This setting automatically adds a passcode to the Zoom meeting invitation sent to each invitee. This setting is on by default and should not be changed.
    • Waiting Room: The  Waiting Room   setting allows a host to screen and control who joins small meetings. This setting is on by default.
    • Authentication: The authentication setting requires that participants are signed-in to Zoom using the email address on the invitation before they can access the meeting. This is a strong security measure, ensuring that no one can enter the meeting as a “guest”.
  • Request that participants refrain from posting your meeting link in public forums or on social media.  If someone has the link, they can join your meeting unless they are required to authenticate.
